Earlier this afternoon, mini-blogging and rumor-fanning site Twitter blew a freaking gasket over the supposed shutting down of Project Gotham Racing and James Bond 007: Blood Stone creators Bizarre Creations. The Liverpool studio was said to have been axed by Activision mere hours ago, with the news originating from a statement on Giant Bomb that the studio will be subject to a "90-day consultation period, statutory redundancy."
How this translates to the studio being shut down, necessarily, is beyond me.
Cliff Bleszinski goes by the pseudonym "therealcliffyb" on Twitter. After this move, he should probably change his Twitter name to "therealcliffybastard." He posted a link to a twitpic with the description, "EXCLUSIVE first screenshot of our Gears of War 3 #e3 demo!" However, the picture was nothing more than the pause screen -- which included the option to invert the y-axis.
Looks like Bleszinski is having a bit of fun with Gears fans before the big E3 show.
UPDATE: GoNintendo is citing this one as fake.
If Nintendo has a number one fan, it has to be Reggie. As President and COO of Nintendo of America, he had made it clear that he will remain forever loyal to the Nintendo brand. With all of the success that Nintendo has been seeing over the past several years with the Wii and DS, it's no surprise that Reggie is quite confident in the company.
Some might argue the man has gotten a bit too confident. Find out why after the cut.
Remember Microsoft's press conference at E3 2008? The announcement that Final Fantasy XIII would be released on the Xbox 360 was a bombshell and Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada was the one who got to deliver it. The following year another once PlayStation exclusive developer, Hideo Kojima, announced that the next major Metal Gear title would also be coming to Microsoft's console. Besides being leaders of two of Japan's most profitable franchises, they have one other thing in common.
The shoulder tap.
Kevin Butler is a busy man at Sony, with lots of things to do: in addition to starring in the company's latest PlayStation 3 ad campaign, he's the Vice President of Relationship Management, Director of Rumor Confirmation, VP of Epic Footage, VP of Enough is Enough, Chief Weaponologist, Director of Interconsole Relations, and of course, Family Activities Director. But with all of that on his plate, he still finds time to do one other thing: tweet!
Indeed, he has recently joined in with the countless individuals who update people about their work and daily lives via Twitter. In fact, just earlier today, he made a tweet about a recent feature he read here on Kombo, stating "The only camping KB does involves a tent and usually a lake."
Those interested in keeping up with him can do so here.
Microsoft launched their new Xbox Live firmware update last month, debuting the ability to use Facebook, Twitter, and Last.FM. However, some were left out in the cold - namely, child accounts were unable to use any of the new features.
That has changed - at least in Europe. An update has been released that allows child accounts to be used, with parental permission, of course.
But what about North America? No worries! The update will be released on December 15.
Xbox Live Silver users who don't want to shell out the $50 for a year of Gold are in luck, as this weekend Microsoft will be offering yet another of their free Xbox Live Weekends from Nov. 20 to 23.
This time around, the focus will be on giving viewers the opportunity to try out the console's new social features, such as Facebook, Twitter, Last.fm, and Halo Waypoint. Players will also get a chance to check out the first episodes of the new season of 1 vs. 100.
Europe will also get a weekend later, but theirs will run longer from Nov. 25 to 30.
But what if you actually want to play games? Aren't there some fun new multiplayer titles to check out on Xbox Li...oh wait. There totally is.
At long last, the moment we've all been waiting for is very nearly finally upon us.
Xbox LIVE General Manager Marc Whitten has revealed to Fast Company that Facebook and Twitter will become a part of Xbox LIVE on Tuesday, November 17th, "turning Xbox and Live into this rich media portal that continuously surfaces the most engaging things to do in the living room."
He adds that these aren't just simple ports of what users may already have: "We look at things like Facebook and Twitter as amazing social experiences, but also entertainment. We didn't want to copy and paste from the PC."
Excited yet?
Microsoft has been keeping things extremely close to the vest when discussing the new Facebook and Twitter apps for Xbox Live. However, the UK at least has a firm date for the service's launch as November 17th.
Considering a North American public beta for the services has been confirmed for late October, the November 17th date sounds like a good estimate for when the service will be launching on the other side of the Atlantic.
