RAGE is a game that got my underoos all in a bunch for the first time back at E3, and with good reason: for one thing, it's the first game from id Software - the godfathers of the first person shooter - in around seven years. That's a long time. Plus, it looks freaking sweet. Hit the jump for the trailer.
id Software co-founder and DOOM creator John Carmack revealed yesterday at QuakeCon that the company will be releasing not one, but two games set in the Rage universe for the iPhone family of devices. RAGE, the new post-apocalyptic first person shooter from the creators of Wolfenstein, easily took home the most awards at this year's E3. Before today, though, footage of the game was hard to come by, and many gamers likely found themselves wondering what all the hubbub was about. Fortunately, some of the footage shown to journalists behind closed doors at the expo has found its way onto the interwebs via Gamespot. Similarities with Borderlands, Bioshock, and Fallout 3 are unmistakable, though Id is quick to point out that RAGE definitely has a vibe that's all its own. From the super smooth animations to the incredibly polished presentation, the game looks simply amazing. Id Software's Rage still has many questions regarding it, not the least of which is when it is actually coming out. However, one of the more odder questions regarding the game has been resolved today, as it has been confirmed that Bethesda will be publishing the game, taking over for previous publisher Electronic Arts. Of course, this likely has something to do with the fact that Bethesda's parent company, Zenimax Media, now owns Id. Either way, with how impressive Rage has been looking, one has to think this is a major loss for gaming's biggest third-party - one they really can't afford right now.
QuakeCon kicked off with a pretty 'raging' start today. Id Software held their press conference and, before co-founder John Carmack gave a very nerdy and informative two-hour keynote speech, they premiered a new trailer for Rage. For those that haven't been following this game, Rage is id's upcoming post-apocalyptic first-person shooter. Not a whole lot is known about Rage but it has been confirmed that it will use id's new engine, id Tech 5. The new trailer gives us a bit more of an idea of what Rage will be like. Check it out below. Video Games - E3 2009 - Video Game Trailers So, after giving this trailer about a half a dozen views I can confirm a few things. First off, I'm really excited about this game. Secondly, there will be vehicles. Rage doesn't have any kind of release date but it's expected to drop sometime in 2010.
