Portal 2 Is So Old-School It Doesn't NEED 3D or Motion Controls

One of the more surprising moments of E3 had to be Valve's Gabe Newell walking onstage during the Sony press conference and not only confirming Portal 2 on the PS3, but basically prostrating himself before the world and declaring an undying love for the console which he previously hated with a passion. But Valve's sudden change of heart over the console doesn't extend to its fancy new features, as the company has stated it's not interested in including motion controls or 3D support in Portal 2. The rest of this story, presented in 2D, after the break.

Red Faction Follow-up in March 2011 Goes Old School (Kind Of)

Red Faction: Guerilla seemed to universally impress those that got around to playing it after its release this past summer. Unfortunately (for THQ), that group was much smaller than they had anticipated and the game was considered less-than-successful commercially. Good fortune has found those craving a sequel. THQ's Executive VP of Core Games Danny Bilson confirmed a follow-up is in the works in an interview with Joystiq during GDC 2010. The new game will be a drastic change from Guerilla and will actually hearken back to the first two entries in the series "because about 80% of it is underground," Bilson was quoted as saying. Many fans will remember that the series actually started as a first-person shooter where players burrowed (in a sense) through walls in a more linear series of mine shafts. The gameplay was revolutionary at the time. It will be interesting to see how developers meld the open-world mentality of Guerilla with the lack of openness that is usually a consequence of going underground. Read more after the break.
