Team Ninja Debuts Ninja Gaiden 3, Dead or Alive Dimensions on 3DS, and Ni-Oh

While publishers like Activision prefer to spend as much money as possible wowing the press with DJs and open bars, some other companies prefer a more reserved, down-to-earth approach. Hence Team Ninja's subdued dinner in a "ninja house in the woods of Tokyo," where they officially announced three new(ish) games. Hit the jump for the details on each.

Media: Ninja Gaiden Σ 2 - Japanese Viral Videos Making-of

Tecmo released quite a few... er, "interesting" viral web videos leading up to the release of Ninja Gaiden Σ 2 for the PlayStation 3. If you were wondering how they set them up and put them into play, then look no further than the following behind-the-scenes video: Video Games | Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 | Japanese Making of the Virals DocXBox 360 | Playstation 3 | Nintendo Wii So... which one was your favorite? I liked watching people react to the "disguise" on the wall, but the shadow graph was pretty neat.

Week-Ending Game Endings - 09.25.09 - Ninja Gaiden II & III

Ninja Gaiden Σ 2, which Tecmo's Team Ninja hopes will be the epitome of the Ninja Gaiden experience, will be released to PlayStation 3 owners in just a few short days. And as we did last week, we're counting down to its release with endings from another age of ninja-- the 8-bit era. Following last week, when we saw Ninja Gaiden in both its arcade and NES forms, we will be taking a look at the ending to Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos for the NES. We pick up as Ryu Hayabusa deals the final blow to the evil demon... Of course, well enough is rarely left alone, and we got the third game, Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom, soon enough after. It wasn't quite as well received as its two predecessors, however, and seemed to put the nail in the series' coffin until Tomonobu Itagaki decided to include Ryu in Dead or Alive and revive the franchise soon after.

Former Ninja Gaiden Producer Learns What His Colleagues Have Been Up To

Ever since leaving Tecmo last year, former Team Ninja head Tomonobu Itagaki has kept a pretty low profile. Unusual for the man who often dresses like a rock star and is usually pretty vocal about things in general. However, Kotaku managed to catch up to him prior to the Tokyo Game Show and conduct an interview with him in which he discusses numerous things, including editing Wikipedia, Dragon Quest, and missiles. But perhaps the best part of the interview is when they reveal to the former Ninja Gaiden producer the latest innovation his former colleagues have added to the PlayStation 3 version of his last work for Tecmo, Ninja Gaiden Σ 2.

Media: Ninja Gaiden Σ 2 - Yosuke Hayashi Interview

Ninja Gaiden Σ 2's release is only a couple of short weeks away, and then PlayStation 3 owners will get to see what their Xbox 360 counterparts have been enjoying for some time now, plus so much more. It sort of makes you wonder who the real winners are, though I imagine some people would gladly drag out a tortoise/hare metaphor here. But before we reach that point, the new head of Tecmo's Team Ninja, Yosuke Hayashi, discusses the group's latest title, and how things have been following former head Tomonobu Itagaki's departure. What's more, he also briefly touches on the upcoming Wii title, Metroid: Other M. Video Games | Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 | Yosuke Hayashi InterviewXBox 360 | Playstation 3 | Nintendo Wii Hmm, I wonder what the secret could be? The demo comes out next week, but I wonder if there is a chance this "ultimate version of Ninja Gaiden" might find its way back to the Xbox 360. For that matter, how many of you purchased Ninja Gaiden II for the Xbox 360, and are feeling burned right now?

Media: Ninja Gaiden Σ 2 - Japanese Bounce Viral Video

Outside of Japan, Tecmo is selling Ninja Gaiden Σ 2 on hot ninja action. Meanwhile, inside of Japan, they have been selling the game more on hot ninja action, with an emphasis on "hot." And despite the one bizarre exception, this latest one is no different, and is using their minute of airtime to tout the game's latest feature: Video Games | Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 | Japanese Bounce ViralXBox 360 | Playstation 3 | Nintendo Wii Ah, how far we've come. What will the future bring? Probably nothing safe to discuss on a family site... or as close as this one comes, anyway.

In Japan, promotion is already underway for the PlayStation 3 version of Ryu Hayabusa's second great journey, and if nothing else, it is very... diverse. In addition to new playable characters and an online co-op mode, GameStop will be offering a special Collector's Edition for $69.99USD to those in both the United States and Canada. Score one for the Canucks. Unique to the Collector's Edition are a 30-page prologue comic book (written and designed by Team Ninja), a mini-strategy guide, an art gallery, commentary from the game's producer and lead artists, and an exclusive downloadable costume. I'm actually a bit jealous. Check out all the details in the press release, after the cut.
