Details about Mega Man Universe have been thin on the ground up until now. But a recent interview with producer Akiko Ito byJoystiq has shed a considerable amount of light on the new title. Hit the jump for a summary of the interesting new points.
Earlier this year, Capcom revealed a downloadable title featuring everyone's favorite blue bomber in Mega Man Universe, but didn't reveal much more outside of a sweet nostalgia-filled trailer that confirmed appearances by other Capcom legends. And that was about it. We speculated that Capcom would wait to showcase more details at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show, but nay, the Penny Arcade Expo is featuring the game playable for the first time, and Capcom has shown of a few new gameplay trailers to boot. The above video is a compilation of the trailers given to various sites, revealing that the game will utilize Mega Man's signature 2D gameplay with 3D sprites, in a style reminiscent of 2006's PSP title Mega Man: Powered Up. Megs himself will be playable of course, along with his incarnation from the incredibly awful US boxart for the original NES release of Mega Man (referred to as "Bad Boxart Mega Man" - no joke) and Street Fighter's Ryu. One would assume that Ghouls and Ghosts' Arthur, revealed in the first trailer, will be playable as well. And that's about all we can garner through the trailer initially, requiring some reading between the lines.
Mega Man fans will likely have their socks rocked completely off by the GameSpot trailer loaded up after the break. Mega Man Universe has just been announced by Capcom for the PSN and Xbox LIVE. What it is? Not sure. Keiji Inafune, creator of Mega Man, has let loose some light details of the game: "We are thrilled to finally be able to announce Mega Man Universe. This game will break the mold and challenge the conventional wisdom of what a Mega Man game can be. When fans finally get to see it, I believe they'll envision their most far-out Mega Man dreams coming true." More, including a trailer, within...
8-bit all the way.
Mega Man 10 has finally hit Wiis everywhere and Capcom has released a press release stating that: "the rumors are true!...
Mega Man 10's WiiWare release is but a mere days away, with the PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE Arcade versions following at varying intervals throughout March. Some might figure the best way to prepare for the imminent wave of robotic destruction is to play through the old games before MM10 hits, but that's so... mundane. Besides, Mega Man 4 didn't even come out for Virtual Console this week. Instead, how about boning up on your Mega Mythology a different way? A fun way?
If you are familiar with the Mega Man Zero series, then you probably know what you can expect to find in our Mega Man Zero Collection gallery, which now plays host to twelve screenshots and eight pieces of artwork from the upcoming compilation. Sadly, nothing of anything new from the DS version of these titles is shown, but at least the artwork is nice and big. In addition to the four Japanese packshots are two images of Zero, one of some members of the Resistance, and another of their leader, Ciel. Don't know who these characters are? Then read on for Capcom's press release, which offers the explanations you seek.
A while back, you might have seen some videos floating around of a first-person shooter Doom deathmatch mod featuring the original Mega Man, 8-bit graphics and all. It was a little primitive feature-wise, with everyone using Mega Man, but it has apparently come a long way since then. CutmanMike has released a new, official trailer for the game which shows lots of hot robot-versus-robot action in pseudo-3D: The full game isn't available yet, but you can try a downloadable demo and learn more at the official website. I know there are some people who think Mega Man should go FPS; would anyone want a real game along these lines?
While Capcom allowed the identities of the new Mega Man 10 Robot Masters to trickle out a couple at a time, today they have let the whole cat out of the bag regarding the special weapons Mega Man can acquire from them. In addition, Capcom has revealed the release date timeline and prices for the game: WiiWare will arrive first on March 1st at 1,000 Wii Points; PlayStation Network is next, coming in on the 11th at $9.99; and finally, Xbox LIVE Arcade closes out the month on the 31st for 800 MS Points. Check out our gallery for the above image and seven more, as well as 37 more screenshots from the game. And after the cut is the press release which gives the specifics of what each weapon can do, as well as descriptions of the "Mega Man Challenges" mode and a comparison between Easy and Normal mode.
