BioWare Rumored to be Working on Handheld Game

Even though BioWare may be busy with Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3 it seems the company has a few other tricks up their sleeves, and they may be of the handheld variety. According to the LinkedIn profile of QA tester Mitchell Fujino the company is well into the process of crafting a new handheld game. Though Fujino has altered his profile since the news first broke to mask the suspected handheld game, it's worth noting that he also tested Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, BioWare's last portable title. More after the break.

Rare Pulls Out of Handheld Market, at Least for Now

As competitors go, few in the industry get along quite as well as Microsoft and Nintendo seem to, perhaps owing in part to the fact they're practically neighbors here in North America. Hence why Rare has managed to produce fare for Nintendo's handhelds, even long after having been purchased by Microsoft. After all, you'd never expect to see Mario or Master Chief on the PSP, would you? However, it seems that the time of seeing Rare's wares on Nintendo handhelds is at an end -- at least, for the moment.

Pachter: New Nintendo Handheld "Possible" During Fiscal Year

E3 was a bit of a bust when it came to any big revelations from Nintendo (other than the surprise sneak-announcement of the Wii MotionPlus), but that has not deterred Everyone's Favorite Analyst Michael Pachter from anticipating big things in the months ahead. As per his note to investors: "There is some possibility that Nintendo will launch a new handheld device during the fiscal year. If so, we expect upside to both our revenue and EPS estimates this year, and solid growth next year." --Michael Pachter And, if it interests anyone, he has also noted that Nintendo's first-quarter operating results are "almost exactly in line with our estimates," and has "FY:09 guidance for all financial and operational metrics." He adds that "Nintendo's recent financial performance has been spectacular and we expect this to continue in FY:09," and they are "establishing FY:10 estimates of ¥1,800 billion in revenue and ¥3,700 in EPS."

Sony Files 2 Handheld Patents; Capabilities Bear Strong Resemblances to Wii, DS

Over the years, many a fanboy cry has been heard over ideas taken from Nintendo and used by Sony for the PlayStation hardware. If you happen to be of this opinion, I can almost certainly guarantee that the following won't do much to sway your view on the matter. Sony filed two patents with the US Patent and Trademark office on January 21 (published on June 26) that details two devices bearing strong resemblances to the Nintendo's Wii and DS hardware. One of the patents mentions a handheld with a touch screen offering multiple-touch input (as opposed to single-touch on the DS) that would "vibrate in response to the change in state of the touch screen." As for the other patent, the nature of the unit is a tad less clear than that of the former. A "hand-held electronic device" is described along with a talk of motion sensing, leading me to believe that the device could be the long rumored new PS3 motion controller or a handheld that happens to have motion sensing built-in (my bets go to the controller). The abstract continues, "The processor may be programmed with instructions that, when executed cause the device to recognize a remote device, recognize a gesture from resulting from motion of the case, and transfer a file from the hand-held device to the remote device or vice versa in response to recognition of the gesture."
