Grand Theft Auto IV Tops the Japanese Sales Charts

Word on the street is that Grand Theft Auto IV hit it huge last week in Japan. According to the latest issue of Famitsu (on store shelves tomorrow), the PlayStation 3 version of GTA IV managed to grab the #1 spot of the top 10 best selling software titles of last week. The Xbox 360 version also fared well with a respectable 4th place finish. While this may come as a surprise to some, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas also sold very well when it released in Japan last January. Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV is making a big splash over in Japan, according to the weekly software ranking published by Famitsu. The big budget sandbox title is debuted at the top of the charts, while LittleBigPlanet and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue: Spec III took third and seventh place, respectively. The exact numbers should be released tomorrow, along with hardware sales (unconfirmed word on the street is the PS3 is number 1). -- PS3 Fanboy Pretty good snag for Capcom who published GTA IV in Japan, and an even bigger success for Western developed games. I know 10 years ago a game like GTA IV wouldn't have even been on Japanese gamers' radar but with such high quality games coming out of American, Canadian, and European dev houses it's hard not to take notice. Does anyone else hear Yoichi Wada and his Japanese Alliance mobilizing?
