NewsFormer Activision exec Robin Kaminsky joins Trion Worlds to grow free-to-play market
Trion Worlds is really getting into free-to-play MMO games. And perhaps this latest hire will show how serious they really are. The Rift and Defiance developer has hired former Activision exec Robin Kaminsky, who will advise them as they develop more free-to-play MMO titles.
Before joining Trion Worlds, Kaminsky was the executive vice president of publishing at Activision Blizzard. Trion Worlds recently changed its MMO Rift from a subscription model to free-to-play. Defiance, on the other hand, is free-to-play after the initial purchase, with the option to use microtransactions.
Speaking to Gamesbeat about Trion Worlds, Kaminsky said, "I love their approach to the market. They are very much at the cutting edge as an online team. They have put a real emphasis on free-to-play. I believe the future is in online free-to-play games, and so I am excited to be involved with them."
Upcoming titles from Trion Worlds includes End of Nations and ArcheAge.
