NewsThe Last of Us enjoys successful launch week in Japan
Pretty much everyone likes The Last of Us over here in the U.S., but Naughty Dog's latest is also doing well in Japan, where it launched last week.
The California-based developer's newest game has nearly trumped first-week sales of the Uncharted series in Japan.
The Last of Us sold 117,465 copies in Japan between June 20, its release date, and June 23. This number is better than the first-week sales for Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and its sequel, Among Thieves, which pushed 16,702 and 53,827, respectively.
However, the third Uncharted game, Drake's Deception, sold even better with 124,989.
Still, sales for The Last of Us are particularly impressive since it's a new American property launching in Japan. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune had weak debut sales in Japan, but the numbers increased with each game.
The Last of Us was also the No. 1 game that week in Japan, beating both old and new software titles alike.
