NewsSony commits to indie devs with new 'Indie Games' category on PlayStation Store
Sony is continuing to show its support to indie developers. The latest show of commitment is the addition of a new "Indie Games" category on the PlayStation store, coming later today.
"With innovative gaming experiences now more diverse than ever, PlayStation and Sony Network Entertainment are proud to stand behind indie-led development," said senior manager Pierre Gravereau. The new category will house all of the latest indie titles available on PlayStation.
"This category builds on the support that PlayStation has offered independent developers in the effort to highlight some of the most unique gaming experiences on PlayStation platforms," Gravereau boasted. "Most recently, we released four stellar independently developed games during our recent Spring Fever event on the PlayStation Store. We also showcased upcoming PS3 and PS Vita games from indie developers along with highlighting two new games coming to the PS4 during our recent Indie Arcade at GDC."
To celebrate the launch of the new Indie Games category, Sony is offering special deals on Retro City Rampage, Papo & Yo, and Zombie Tycoon II.
Looking ahead to the PS4, Sony's commitment to indie development will only grow as the company seems to be placing an emphasis on game development for the next-gen. It'll be interesting to see whether this new category grows and evolves, or gets shoved aside for blockbuster titles.
