NewsNew Super Mario Bros. U co-op trailer is a lie
A couple of weeks ago, I attended Nintendo's Wii U Experience event in Los Angeles. One of the games I got some hands-on time with was New Super Mario Bros. U. The game was, for all intents and purposes, a fun and healthy dose of 2D platforming goodness. But it was also quite tricky. Why is that, you ask? Because I was playing alongside three other people.
Remember how busted four-player co-op in New Super Mario Bros. Wii was? What about the finicky two-player co-op in New Super Mario Bros. 2? Well, New Super Mario Bros. U, while fun, offers more of that clusterf*cky awkwardness that's so inherent in the series' co-op.
That's why the latest trailer for the game, which showcases a lot of two-player gameplay, is a complete and utter lie. Just watch the trailer for yourself and see. Look at all that cohesive teamwork. That doesn't happen in these games!
Come November 18, no one is going to play New Super Mario Bros. U with their pals and have such a seamless experience. Just you watch.
